About Coach Shelley
My Story
Every great coach has a first practice.
Mine began in 2009 with a whistle around my neck, a playbook in my hand, and a determination to make a difference in the lives of young athletes. I wasn't searching for trophies or recognition, I simply wanted to help kids believe in themselves. I quickly discovered that coaching wasn't just about teaching the game. It was about teaching confidence to the child who doubted themselves, discipline to the athlete who needed direction, and perseverance to the player who had never experienced success.
Over the next 16 years, that single season became a lifelong calling.
I've had the privilege of coaching hundreds of young athletes, celebrating championship victories, overcoming heartbreaking defeats, and witnessing moments that never appear on a scoreboard. I've watched quiet kids become team leaders, uncertain players transform into confident competitors, and young athletes carry the lessons they learned on the field into their classrooms, homes, and future careers.
Those moments reminded me why youth sports matter. But my journey wasn't always easy.
Like every first-time coach, I stood on the sidelines wondering if I was doing enough. I spent countless late nights drawing plays, planning practices, searching for better drills, and learning through trial and error. I made mistakes. I adjusted. I grew. Every challenge became another lesson, and every lesson became another opportunity to become the coach my players deserved.
That's why I created Sports Dream Makers.
This isn't just a website. It's the resource I wish I had when I first started coaching.
Sports Dream Makers was built with one mission: **Pay It Forward**
I believe every experienced coach has a responsibility to help the next one. The knowledge we've earned should never stay on a shelf. It should be shared with the coach preparing for their very first practice, the volunteer stepping up for their child's team, and the mentor who wants to create a positive experience for every young athlete they lead.
Here you'll find more than playbooks and practice plans. You'll discover coaching philosophies, leadership strategies, player development techniques, team-building ideas, and practical lessons learned from sixteen years on the sidelines. Every resource has been created with one goal; to make the beginning of your coaching journey as smooth as possible.
Because success in youth sports isn't measured only by championships.
It's measured by the child who smiles after making their first tackle.
The player who finally believes they belong.
The teammate who learns to put others before themselves.
The parent who watches their son or daughter gain confidence they never knew they had.
And the coach who realizes that the greatest victory isn't found in the present during and after games, it's found years later when a former player says, "Coach, thank you for believing in me."
That is why I coach. That is why I continue to learn. That is why I'll always Pay It Forward.
Whether you're coaching your very first season or your twentieth, I believe every child deserves a coach who inspires them, every parent deserves a program they can trust, and every coach deserves a place to learn, grow, and lead with confidence.
My goal is to build stronger athletes, stronger leaders, stronger families, and stronger communities one practice, one game, and one child at a time.
Thank you for being part of this journey. I hope the resources you find here will help you make your coaching experience rewarding, memorable, and impactful for every young athlete you have the opportunity to lead.
